My visit to the Octagon of Doom

This past Saturday I got the pleasure of attending the Kansas State mens basketball game when they hosted the Iowa State Cyclones at Bramlage Coliseum. I must say that even though I say I do not favor either KU or KU (since I pride myself on being a University of Michigan fan) I have attended way more basketball games at the PHOG then I have in Manhattan. As a matter of fact its been close to ten years since I last attended a game in Bramlage, so I was very excited at the opportunity take the experience in. especially since KSU basketball has grown by leaps and bounds in the last ten years.

 The view from my seats

Overall I must say I was very impressed by the atmosphere, my seats were right across from the student section, which was both large and loud. A great student section can make or break the atmosphere of a college basketball game in my opinion. The great atmosphere was all the more exciting when the actual game followed through with excitement when the then ranked #13 Wildcats who had started the game off slowly began to pull away with a force near the end to finish off a great home win, much to the crowds enjoyment. The “Octagon of Doom” is certainly not a large venue, but what it lack in size, the crowed makes up for with an intimidating presence for opponents. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the game, and certainly hope its not another ten years before I make a return trip.

  1. Hello Adam,

Informative article. The game sounded like the crowd was excited and into the game. With a KSU win, I am certain the people wearing purple were showing their enthusiasm with the victory. I enjoyed reading this post and your interest in sports reflects in your writing.
